Abstract
In this 2-day training course, you will be introduced to the scientific perspective, assessment and treatment of sexual offending and compulsive sexual behaviors including, appropriate diagnostic criteria for Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) as determined by the WHO, and differential diagnosis with other complex types of problematic sexual behaviors including paraphilic behaviors. Appropriate legal and medical issues related to the topics are addressed. This course will provide you with practical training on validated assessment measures for problematic sexual behaviors. Treatment planning designed to break through denial and propel clients into recovery is a central focus. Tools for interventions and group therapy will be discussed.

Classify differential diagnosis utilizing the ICD-11 diagnostic code and criteria for Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) as determined by the World Health Organization

Describe and distinguish the constructs of sexual addiction, CSBS, hypersexuality, impulse control disorder, sexual offending and paraphilic behaviors

Use a 4-quadrant model of conceptualizing and describing clients with CSBD and/ or sex offending behaviors

Conceptualize the Opportunity, Attachment, and Trauma (OAT) model in understanding, assessing and treating the CSBD and sex offending

About the Trainers

We would also like to thank our trainers for their enthusiasm and generosity to share their comprehensive knowledge, extensive experience and practical skills.
Barrister Edward Chan - was educated in the University of Manchester, where he obtained his LLB, before returning to Hong Kong to practice law as a solicitor. He set up Chan, Wong & Lam in 1991. He handled litigation while he was a solicitor, specializing in criminal, matrimonial, commercial and bankruptcy laws and attended trials as an advocate. He became a barrister in 2012. He is currently a Principal Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Hong Kong and a barrister handling numerous court trials, including appeals in the Court of Appeal and Court of Final Appeal.
Dr Sammy Cheng - obtained his master's degree in clinical psychology at the University of Hong Kong, and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He had worked as a clinical psychologist in various hospitals under the Hospital Authority for about 20 years, including Kwai Chung Hospital, Yan Chai Hospital, Caritas Medical Centre and Princess Margaret Hospital. He has served as an expert witness in court while working for the Hospital Authority and in private practice. He has written numerous forensic psychological assessment reports for patients with criminal charges or legal issues. He has rich experiences in assessing and treating clients with different kinds of Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder and serving as an expert witness in court for those with sex offending. He was a key speaker on the topic of CBT for Sex Addiction in the Hospital Authority, Hong Kong Psychological Society and various professional societies. Dr Cheng has written book chapters and treatment materials for practitioners and sufferers to manage this disorder (www.drsammycheng.com).
Dr Wing Kit Choi - is a specialist in psychiatry. He graduated from The University of Hong Kong and became a fellow of The Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists. He obtained a master's degree in criminology and received intensive local and overseas trainings in forensic psychiatry. He holds the posts of Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong and Subspecialty Spokesperson in Forensic Psychiatry at the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists. He is a member of the Mental Health Service Committee at the Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention. Previously, he was the Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Chief of Service at the Department of Forensic Psychiatry, Castle Peak Hospital, Visiting Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at the Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre of the Correctional Services Department, trainer in forensic psychiatry under Hong Kong Training Scheme of the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists. Dr Choi has extensive experiences in psychiatric risk assessment, management of mentally-disordered offenders and sex offenders.
Ms Sarina Lam - obtained her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Hong Kong and M. Phil. (Clin.Psy.) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has been an Outreaching Social Worker handling delinquent youth for years before she worked as a Clinical Psychologist in Correctional Services Department (CSD). She worked mostly in Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre. She has compiled about 400 forensic assessment reports and has been repeatedly testified as an expert witness in High Court. Her expertise lies in forensic assessment, suicide prevention and various offending as well as addictive behaviors. In particular, for many years, she has been working and leading a treatment unit for person committing sex offence in CSD which benchmarks international best practice. She is often invited to offer training on the topics of assessment and treatment for sex offending by various organizations such as the Hong Kong Police Force, Department of Social Rehabilitation, Macau SAR and HKU SPACE. Ms Lam is also an author of journal articles and books on the topic of sexual offending.
Dr Samuel Lo - obtained his Bachelor of Social Sciences degree with a major in psychology and a Certificate in Education from the University of Hong Kong; Master of Science in clinical psychology from Eastern Michigan University, USA; and Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from Northcentral University, USA. He worked as a clinical psychologist in Hong Kong Christian Service and Clinical Psychological Service of Social Welfare Department (SWD) for 25 years. Before his retirement from the department, he was the officer-in-charge of one of its five Clinical Psychology Units. His expertise lies in assessment and treatment for sex offenders, and assessment of mentally incapacitated persons as defined in local ordinances. He is a strong supporter of using local research to substantiate clinical practice, including the research on sex offenders with intellectual disability. He has rich experience in individual and group treatment for sex offenders. Dr Lo is the author of chapters in the books "性本無罪" and "性罪迷徒" published by SWD for free distribution to public and non-government organizations. He received the Director of Social Welfare's Commendation Letter in 2011, and Secretary for the Civil Service's Commendation in 2017 for his outstanding work performance.
